For over fifty years, Tito Puente, "The King" has been a source of inspiration to percussionists throughout the world. For most of his career he has had a working relationship with Martin Cohen and LP Music Group and this collaboration has given rise to a line of timbales bearing his name, as well a jazz ensemble founded in 1979. Born in 1923 in Harlem Hospital, NYC of Puerto Rican parents, Tito Puente shaped a musical art form into something uniquely his own. Not only is Tito known for his outstanding musical talent, but also for an amazing collection of compositions, big band arrangements, and over 100 albums on which he is the leader. A student of the Juilliard School in New York City, and a past member of the United States Navy, Tito is known as the consummate showman. His worldwide touring schedule with the Tito Puente Jazz Ensemble has him working more in his seventies than any other time in his life and has won him admirers around the world. In 1997 Tito was honored by the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC when a pair of his LP Tito Puente Timbales were placed into the museum's permanent collection. He was also given recognition for his contribution to the Latin music genre with the creation of a Puerto Rican postage cancellation stamp. When LP Music Group was founded in the 1960's, timbales were only heard in Latin music. Today, more than three decades later, all genres of music have embraced this versatile percussion instrument. LP's experience in building timbales has resulted in a distinctive, modern shell, that uses a ribbed design with both top and bottom edges turned in, to create a livelier, more cutting "cascara" (the sound produced when striking the side of the shell). LP's timbale construction has been tested on world tours from Japan to South America to ensure it withstands the rigors of the road. All LP Tito Puente Timbales, Thunder Timbs, and Timbalitos are sold complete with a chrome plated, heavy duty, steel Timbale Stand. The stand has a die cast, geared tilter that locks in tight for either straight or tilted playing. The height adjustment mechanism ensures absolute, non-slip, positive positioning, with only hand tightening needed, and also has an anti-rattle sleeve. It comes complete with an adjustable cowbell holder made from welded steel and features LP's superior eye-bolt assembly. LP Timbale Shells are available in either genuine stainless steel or solid brass; each possessing its own distinct sound. The genuine stainless steel shells produce very bright and crisp loud sounds, while the solid brass shells produce warmer, sounds. LP offers three different styles. They are standard Timbales, deeper Thunder Timbs, and small diameter Timbalitos. All can be tuned with a tuning wrench. LP Tito Puente Timbales LP Tito Puente Timbales are available in three combinations, 12"/13", 13"/14", and 14"/15" diameter sets. The 13" and 14" model was the first ever manufactured by LP, while today the 14" and 15" model is the most preferred. A heavy duty, fully height adjustable, tilting timbale stand, a cowbell bracket, a pair of timbale sticks, and a tuning wrench is included with every set of LP Tito Puente Timbales. Prices effective from May 2000. Subject to change without notice.
